About Us

The Innovation Hub Management Company (Pty) Ltd (“TIHMC”), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (“GGDA”), was established by the Gauteng Provincial Government through its Department of Economic Development (DED) to establish and manage The Innovation Hub as a science and technology park to promote socio-economic development and competitiveness of the province through innovation.

The Innovation Hub is Southern Africa's first internationally accredited Science and Technology Park and a full member of the International Association of Science Parks (“IASP”).  Strategically located in Tshwane, East of Pretoria, Gauteng - South Africa's executive capital and 'smart' province, The Innovation Hub has become a regional centre of innovation and knowledge creation, linked to the fast moving world of global interconnectivity.  The Innovation Hub is nestled between the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (“CSIR”), the leading research institute in Africa and the University of Pretoria (“UP’), a top rated research university.  Other higher education and research institutions located within a 10km radius of The Innovation Hub include: Tshwane University of Technology (“TUT”), University of South Africa (“UNISA”), Agricultural Research Council (“ARC”) and, South African Bureau of Standards (“SABS”), but to name a few. The Innovation Hub is also within close proximity of various government departments, notably, the Department of Science and Technology (“DST”), Technology Innovation Agency (“TIA”) as well as the National Research Foundation (“NRF”).

Other important institutions within Gauteng include the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (“Wits”), the University of Johannesburg (“UJ”), Vaal University of Technology (“VUT”), Mintek and the Medical University of South Africa (“Medunsa”).

The close proximity of The Innovation Hub to the above institutions has positioned it to provide unique spaces as part of its value added services for high-tech entrepreneurs, emerging and established businesses, academics, researchers and funders or venture capitalists to meet, network and collectively work towards growing the South African economy through innovation.

A science and technology park is an organisation managed by specialised professionals, whose main aim is to increase the wealth of its community by promoting the culture of innovation and the competitiveness of its associated businesses and knowledge-based institutions.  Small medium enterprises (“SMEs”) in economic growth are important for, science and technology parks are therefore powerful tools for regional development and economic transformation as they usually integrate in one location or region, the components of an innovation ecosystem: universities, research institutions, enterprises, civil society and government to achieve regional economic goals.

Recognising the importance of innovation and SME, a principal objective of science and technology parks is to provide an environment that promotes innovation; fosters innovation and collaboration as well as enhance the growth and competitiveness of knowledge-based businesses thereby contributing to the growth of the local economy, creating decent jobs, and alleviating poverty.
