- LARGE, MEDIUM AND SMALL ENTERPRISE RESIDENTS
- General
Residents' operations on The Innovation Hub must contribute to the long-term success of Gauteng and South Africa through the development, enhancement and/or application of innovation and technology. Examples of residents include:
- Companies engaging in research, development and design of products, services and processes.
- Inward investing companies that intend to start up and expand in Gauteng and plan to engage in activities listed in 1(a) within a preset period, agreed to in advance with the Board of The Innovation Hub Management Company (Pty) Ltd.
- Operators of technology-intensive businesses who place knowledge-based innovations that encompasses decision-making, research, product and market development, advanced and prototype manufacturing, customer support and associated services, as a significant part of their operations on The Innovation Hub.
- All tenant operations on The Innovation Hub should conform to the general guidelines adopted by The Innovation Hub Management Company (Pty) Ltd. A specific condition is that all operations should be environmentally friendly.
Depending on the scale of operations, anchor residents and enterprises will be accommodated in owner-built buildings, or for smaller enterprises in The Innovation Hub multi-tenant buildings, subject to availability.
- Priority will be given to companies who:
- Are world leaders (actual or potential) in innovative technology and brand recognition.
- Are contributing members of high-technology clusters in Gauteng and are inclined to develop synergies with other companies on The Innovation Hub.
- Have a long-term commitment to building technology competence in Gauteng through investment in people and indigenous intellectual property.
- Provide a significant number of high value-added innovation and technology jobs locally; and/or
- Are engaged in the areas of electronics, information and communications technology, biotechnology, advanced materials, value-added technology-driven services and content, and other drivers of the new economy.
- Have existing or planned relationships with the University of Pretoria and/or CSIR that provide a basis for skills development or research activity in a mutually beneficial way.
- Are willing to offer work experience to university students, participate in co-operative education programmes, share research facilities, undertake joint research projects, become a partner with a university member in applying for collaborative research funding, mentor and other wise assist incubator companies, or are active in the CoachLabâ„¢ or other business activities on The Innovation Hub.
- EMBRYO AND START-UP COMPANIES
Embryo and start-up companies planning to engage in any of the activities listed above will be considered for entry into Hub incubator programmes.
These companies may grow out of university research or research institute activities, or other incubator programmes, or companies founded by entrepreneurs within South Africa or abroad.Admission to the incubator programmes is subject to the individual entry criteria for each programme. If a start-up company is already adequately established, tenancy in a multi-tenant building can be considered.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS
Professional companies providing value-added services to Hub residents (such as legal, accounting, recruiting, venture fund management, training, design and marketing, consulting to entrepreneurs, etc) are also admissible to The Innovation Hub. Training companies will only be admitted upon successful discussions with the University of Pretoria regarding potential synergies.
Service providers who intend involving themselves in business incubation, joint ventures, and new economy business development will be required to hold detailed discussions with The Innovation Hub regarding their involvement on the Hub.
These enterprises may be repositioned as anchor residents in accordance with the conditions of Section A.
When appropriate, 'hot offices' in the main complex managed by The Innovation Hub Management Company (Pty) Ltd will be made available to such added-value service providers.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
As part of the development of The Innovation Hub, certain special projects are being considered for development, such as a Teleport and innovation exchange (The Switch). In such cases, these developments will be subject to full feasibility studies and decisions taken by the Board of The Innovation Hub Management Company (Pty) Ltd.
