In 2016 Premier David Makhura announced the provinces’ intention to radically transform, modernize and to re-industrialize the Gauteng province. From this commitment the TMR programme was enacted, the mandate of which is to transform Gauteng into an integrated city region, composed of social cohesion and an economy characterized by smart and green industrial economic development.
In this breath the Gauteng Department e-Government, an organ committed to better coordinating resources across government and private partnerships for improved quality of public services by way of modernization, hosted the Technology Innovation Conference on 1 -2 February 2018. The conference was a showcase of strides made by provincial government in modernization. Moreover, it was a platform used to identify areas for collaboration and investment by both private and public sectors.
Various industry role players were in attendance, over 1000 public and private stakeholders, all Gauteng provincial and national government departments and agencies, namely ICT experts, decision makers, academia, SME’s, incubators, and innovators.
The Innovation Hub participated during the two -day workshop and invited 20 of its entrepreneurs to exhibit at the conference. One of The Innovation Hub’s value propositions is networking opportunities for start-ups, and from this experience start-ups incubated at The Innovation Hub were afforded the opportunity to not only showcase their products, but to also initiate engagements with potential buyers and investors
