Tshwane, 13 April 2016 – The Gauteng Province is looking for small enterprises and research groups that have solutions to the challenges faced by ordinary South Africans. Through The Innovation Hub, Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) and its partners, innovators are called to enter the Gauteng Accelerator Programme (GAP) Innovation Competitions, closing on 2 June 2016.
GAP is looking for innovators, researchers and entrepreneurs in ICT, Medical, Biosciences and the Green Economy that are working on novel ideas that will improve the efficiency of government service delivery, increase the competitiveness of the local economy and enhance the quality of life of ordinary citizens.
Previous winners have included:
Prof. Luke Chimuka and his team from the University of the Witwatersrand with their water based Moringa ingredient extraction technology for Moringa enriched food products.
Desmond Mongwe in the GAP ICT category won in 2014 for MoWallet, a mobile coupon platform for retailers - and his innovation has gone on to win the #HackJozi Challenge last year.
HearScreen, a spin-off from the University of Pretoria launched their National Hearing Test App, hearZA, with Vodacom in March 2016. The app is designed to detect signs of hearing loss and help sufferers seek help as soon as possible.
Winners of GAP 2016 will share over R2,5 million in seed funding and cash prizes, as well as receive incubation services with technical and business mentors, intellectual property lawyers and access to our network of industry and government partners.
