Home-grown SAP consultancy and resident tenant at The Innovation Hub, Satreno, aims to open an office in Dubai. This is set to follow the opening of offices in the US and Turkey as well as a presence in East Africa.
Lucas Mothupi, chairman of Satreno, explains that their business is “counter-cyclical” and to experience the extent of this one simply needs to look at a recent survey conducted by Gartner, an IT research firm. The worldwide survey , based on chief information officers’ (CIOs) budget plans in corporate and public sector IT spend, shows that this year, spending will either be flat or on the decline. Satreno’s focus area is the one area that corporate IT budgets will be concentrated on. Improving business processes and investing in business intelligence form the two top priorities as revealed by the survey.
In an interview with Finweek (29 January 2009) Mothupi says, “In tough economic times streamlining operations and having access to organisational information become an emergency. If you are fighting for survival the first question you ask is; ‘where do we cut?’ It is all about cost efficiency.”
Analytics and business intelligence (BI), defined as technologies, applications and practices that are used to assist a business to better understand market behaviour and business context, is Satreno’s particular niche. Gartner predicts that the BI market will show an 8.1% growth through to 2012.
Satreno is particularly strong in the mining and resources sector and is moving into Government, counting Transnet among others as a client. “In the public sector, managing your supply chain forms the most important cost driver while in the mining sector it is all about maintenance costs. With analytics tremendous cost saving is achieved” says Mothupi while adding that a mere five months into Satreno’s Transnet assignment, they saved the public utility R160m.
Satreno was founded in 2003 by four ex-Deloitte consultants and currently boasts more than 120 employees. This number is said to grow to about 200 employees during 2009. The new Dubai office is targeting the energy sector and Satreno’s long term relationship with Sasol (a client), is proving invaluable. |
