International Conference of examination bodies
Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, recently hosted the 5th Conference of the Association of Commonwealth Examination and Accreditation Bodies (ACEAB) from 9-14 March 2008 at The Innovation Hub Conference Venue.
Themed 'Improving the quality of public education in the Commonwealth: assessment, accreditation, and evaluation', this unique conference brought together delegates from all over the world who are involved in the assessment, accreditation, and evaluation of education. The Conferences provide a platform to share ideas and to seek solutions to common problems experienced in the universal quest for ensuring standards and quality in education.
The conference was officially opened by Umalusi CEO and ACEAB Secretary Dr Peliwe Lolwana, while the keynote address was given by Professor Mary Metcalfe. The five day forum saw over 25 local and international speakers present papers and discuss a range of key educational matters ranging from improving the quality of public education in commonwealth countries in relation to examinations to formative assessment as a scaffold to high learner achievement across social class contexts.
