XbloX, a resident at The Innovation Hub, designs and develops custom web-based information systems. The company differentiates itself through its use of an agile development lifecycle based on the (Rational) Unified Process (RUP), UML, Microsoft's .NET and their own Business Level Components. All this combines to provide customers with affordable and reliable custom solutions.

Wilco Swanepoel, the managing director of XbloX says that this reliability and affordability led to partnerships with local and overseas businesses. According to Swanepoel, XbloX's ability to provide a clear picture of what will be delivered and what it will cost very early in the project and then delivering on these promises, is key to these partnerships.

One of the local partnerships is with Xpitec, another resident company at The Innovation Hub. Xpitec is an embedded software solutions provider with vast experience in the field of interfacing to, and controlling measurement devices. This is combined with the information system knowledge and experience of XbloX to provide complete turn-key solutions to industrial clients. A recent project is a Production control system developed for a factory of Tiger Brands. "The fact that the whole system is web-based allows the client to see what is happening on the production floor, in real-time from any place in their business", says Swanepoel.

XbloX also partnered with SymbiTec BV, a Dutch company, to develop an advanced on-line mentoring and training system for the Business Opportunity School in the Netherlands. According to Swanepoel, this system may be adapted to help South African training institutions to deliver their offerings via the web and mobile telephony. The Netherlands is a world leader on internet access to the population. "The systems that we develop there today will be usable in the South Africa of tomorrow." says Swanepoel

XbloX is currently working on a plug-and-play document management solution for mid-sized and small companies. Swanepoel says that this product will simplify the transformation and archival of paper-based documents to digital format. It will also enable the secure distribution of these digital copies to any location, saving time and money.

As a young company, Xblox certainly has its eye on the prize. According to Swanepoel, the partnerships with Xpitec and SymbiTec will go a long way towards helping the company to penetrate the South African and global market. With their drive for innovation and eye for strategic partnerships, they are sure to succeed.
