The CoachLab Raloka Ranch Weekend
Students were divided into teams of two for their 'Time challenge', in which teamwork was the essence of the challenge. Students had to carry a container filled with water around, which made the course much more exciting and difficult. In order to successfully complete this task, team members had to work together and trust each other. Despite a few bruises and scratches, the entire group managed to complete the task. At about 17:00 on Saturday afternoon, the students were broken up into teams of three by the facilitators for a Potjiekos Competition. All teams were given the same ingredients - vegetables and chicken - and were given two hours to start the fire and prepare the meal. Nicolai van der Merwe and Werner Kruger, both from Epi-Use, were the judges. They judged the students on the way they set the tables, presentation of food and taste. In the end the first team won the table setup, the second team won the best presentation of the dish and the last team won for the best potjiekos. All three dishes were served to the groups for supper. With the theme being "What's your story?", mentors, students and ranch facilitators shared their stories by the fireplace and Jaco, the ranch facilitator, entertained the CoachLabber's by playing some music on his guitar before calling it a night. Early on Sunday morning the students were given an opportunity to sit and enjoy nature, before they embarked on their last activities - which ranged from putting together a tent from scratch to balancing a ball on a pole with only ropes tied around a big circle. Later that afternoon, students enjoyed a delicious lunch and dessert. Then they said their goodbyes and started their journey home. The whole exercise brought the group closer because they had to agree to disagree in most of the decisions and end up choosing the best solution for their teams. All in all the whole initiative was a great success and will be remembered by all. |
