According to Hub CEO, Dr Neville Comins, the Technology Top 100 Awards programme (TT100) showcases the very best technological organisations in South Africa and demonstrates the deep seated technological prowess that exists in this country. Dr Comins had previously been involved in TT100 adjudication.
The Awards Programme, now in its 15th year, has become the foremost business awards programme in South Africa focusing on large, medium as well as small enterprises. Similar to The Innovation Hub, it seeks to add new value to all participants, through training and development initiatives and creating opportunities for skills and technology transfer.
A key component of the initiative is to utilise the public media as a vehicle for bringing the story of true South African innovation to all four corners of our land, and beyond. According to TruTeq Wireless, a TT100 2004 winner in the Information & Communications Technology: Hardware small enterprise sector, the awards changed the course of their business. "Marketing became much easier because we now had the acknowledged credibility that we lacked before. Potential customers realised that they dealt with a real business with real skills that was above all sustainable. We are deeply indebted to TT100 and Da Vinci for the creation of a fair and thorough mechanism for acknowledging the efforts of organisations to become the sustainable and creative growth engines that this country needs."
This value-add is not limited to small firms only, as numerous large corporations, including established engineering firms such as Bell Equipment and Sasol, attest to the benefits of annual association with, and participation in TT100. Mr Angus Paterson from Paterson and Cooke Consulting Engineers says that from a marketing perspective, it is good to be able use the TT100 award to highlight technical competitiveness, specifically in an overseas bid we companies are asked to comment on their competitiveness.
The above support follows on extensive media coverage of these organisations' endeavours, catapulting them onto the national platform.
Since 1994, TT100 has had the strong support of both Government and the private sector. The programme has received substantial support from the Department of Science & Technology as the major Government sponsor and Eskom as the private sector sponsor. Through its partners, TT100 forms an integral part of the National System of Innovation.
