Newly resident at The Innovation Hub is GIS (Geographic Information System) application and customisation development specialists - Software Engineering Consulting (SEC). Headed by Director, Johan Terblans, the company holds over 50 years of total developer experience - a factor which enables it to provide its clients with a total solution for their custom application needs.

With a client base that ranges from application development houses, public work organisations and road agencies, Terblans says that the depth of experience of his team is critical to their capacity to help clients plan, design and develop their custom applications across industries. "We have extensive project experience on desktop, web and mobile development platforms, which enables us to advise our clients to choose the best technologies to keep their application current with the newest development technologies", he adds.

According to him, SEC holds an additional advantage in their ability to link technical software development with the design of interfaces that are practical and user-friendly. With a large proportion of their development being web-based, the company has managed to refine their web application development to include virtually seamless interfaces to databases and GIS application. Solutions developed have included the development of web portals for transportation systems, field routing services and school infrastructure.

SEC has also been working on an Integrated Transport Information System (ITIS) for the National Roads Agency (NRA), which involves the design and development of an Oracle data warehouse for storing of all technical information. The imported information is used for a variety of functions, from pavement and traffic management to land information and maintenance management. ITIS also boasts the ability to import project data from SAP systems for compiling management reports and tender estimations. "All of this information is integrated into a single web portal from which to view the related information through a secure web interface", says Terblans.

Terblans maintains that the company's specialised skills in Intergraph products, Oracle database, Oracle Spatial, linear referencing systems, infrastructure management and mobile development stand it in good stead to expand further in to the realm of unique product development.

It is because of this ideal of pursuing innovation that he believes The Innovation Hub is such a good fit for the company. "We also hope that being located here will help us attract and recruit the kind of people that also believe in the concept of pushing innovation", he adds

With growth and expansion a major priority on SEC's agenda, it is evident from the impressive base that they have already managed to build that this company is set for success.
