The recent deal between MCC Contracts (Marikana Platinum Mine) and SkillsTrac highlights the ability of junior management staff and lower level supervisors to use web-based performance and competence management software successfully.
Marikana Platinum Mine has implemented SkillsTrac™ - an online performance and competence monitoring solution - to monitor staff performance. Designed by SkillsTrac - a Maxum Business Incubator resident company - SkillsTrac™ is easy to use and allows companies to create or customise job profiles and develop performance agreements. The application also captures regular performance and competence assessment results against individual performance agreements and generates employee, management and compliance reports. It systematically identifies and prioritises competence gaps and monitors the effectiveness of interventions to improve performance.
Dr Annelize Pretorius, who trained the group of supervisors at MCC Contracts in the use of SkillsTrac™, said the group was very excited about the solution enabling them to participate in the overall performance management strategy of Marikana Mine. Joost van der Westhuizen, the Group Training Manager of the mine, believes that the use of SkillsTrac™ by all levels of management to identify the prioritised competence gaps based on actual performance requirements, will contribute to reducing unnecessary or wasteful training and development initiatives. They are also excited that line managers have access to this user-friendly, hassle-free system with which to monitor staff performance.
ETC HUMAN RESOURCES, the owners of SkillsTrac™, hope that this initiative will encourage other technical and contract-orientated work environments to follow the lead of MCC Contracts to improve human performance, comply with related legislation and submit workplace reports hassle-free.
