Luuk ICT, a software development company specialising in web, mobile and online GIS technologies and located at The Innovation Hub, launched a new Tourism Booking Portal for Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA) in the last week of January 2007.
This portal is the first in its kind. With a GIS tool, users will be able to navigate with GIS and orientate themselves when making a booking.
The online booking of flights and car hire is also included in the booking software, as well as a Content Management System where registered users can upload new venues, events or attractions onto the system. The relevant GTA officer reviews the content before allowing it onto the system. The ability to load content to the portal is a free service to registered users.
According to LUUK Director, Tobie van der Spuy, in using the system a user zooms into a province such as Gauteng and then a city such as Pretoria. The user selects the type of accommodation (B&B, Lodge or Hotel) and the relevant information is plotted on the screen. Events and attractions are also displayed on the system.
"Once the information is plotted the user can select a specific venue, event and attraction and read up on the related information before doing an online booking and securing the accommodation. Currently events and attractions are not bookable", he says.
Luuk ICT's venture into the tourism portal business is going full steam ahead and together with their partners they plan to take South Africa by storm in 2007.
