Maxum reaches out to Universities

Tonie Deen of Observo (Pty) Ltd with some of the Wits students attending the University's Winter School in July this year.

The Hub's Maxum Business Incubator staff and participants embarked on a 'Universities Outreach' during the winter months this year.

Operations Manager Martin Manmohan responded to an invitation from the University of Pretoria to talk to their Engineering Week Winter School students about entrepreneurship and incubation, while Maxum tenant, Tonie Deen of Observo (Pty) Ltd spoke to students attending the Wits University's Winter School about high growth entrepreneurship.

The aim of these annual events is, in the case of UP to attract students to engineering as a career, and at Wits to cultivate a culture of entrepreneurship amongst the students. Interestingly, a significant number of the students see themselves as employers rather than employees in the near future.

Observo's Tonie Deen could also give students practical advice about setting up and running a small business. More than 100 students were present at both presentations and both Martin and Tonie were inundated with questions from would-be engineers and entrepreneurs.
