Optimising logistics through customised solutions

e-Logics develops solutions to manage business and engineering logistics processes.

Esi amalgamates adaptive object modelling and component based software development, reducing costs and time to implement custom software with long term system sustainability and integrates into existing systems such as ERPs.

The Logicslink technology enables automated logistics planning to optimise customer service, working capital and operational costs.

Mia is an enterprise-wide asset maintenance management application for automated management and maintenance planning and scheduling and real-time monitoring and control.

Software development company e-Logics, recently a new tenant in the Enterprise Building at the Hub, is providing system solutions to automate and optimise business and engineering logistics processes. The company provides customisable, expandable and integrated system solutions, focusing their product range on expandable software infrastructure (Esi), supply chain logistics management (Logicslink) and assets maintenance and management (Mia).

With clients ranging from Cadbury to Anglo American, e-Logics has shown that their multi-disciplinary approach to integrating business knowledge, engineering, science and technology delivers real client value. This is further enhanced by their cost-effective customised solutions Esi toolset. This innovative product was the subject of a white paper submitted in conjunction with the University of Pretoria at a .Net Development Conference held in the Czech Republic earlier this year.

Established in 2000, e-Logics merged part of its services with Volition Consulting Services last year. e-Logics Managing Director, Johann van der Westhuizen, regards the unique combination of competencies as a major contributing factor to the company's most recent successes. "By combining years of consulting experience with information technology and systems capabilities, we are able to provide our clients with far more comprehensive solutions", he says.

Since the merger with Volition, e-Logics has seen substantial growth. Their expanded staff complement - now more than 100 employees - was part of the rationale for moving to The Innovation Hub. According to van der Westhuizen, the Hub provides an ideal environment from which to operate. "We were attracted by the first-class infrastructure and the access we would gain to the many networking opportunities at the Hub. It was also clear that the association with The Innovation Hub brand could only benefit the company", he says.

In addition, the Hub's focus on innovation and development was a strong 'pull' factor for the company, which itself is currently involved in three THRIP research and development projects in conjunction with the University of Pretoria. One of the projects is specifically focused on the technological expansion of the Esi product, currently being undertaken in collaboration with Microsoft.

Van der Westhuizen is optimistic about the future of e-Logics, saying "We have great expectations and see ourselves growing exponentially within the next year. e-Logics is at a point now where we can build value-added service on top of our products." Already the company is working on the next release of software, and looking at defining an international strategy.
