IntoWeb Training, a subsidiary of IntoWeb - a leading local Internet service provider - has created waves locally and internationally with its original and progressive approach to training and examinations systems. Relocated at The Innovation Hub recently, they are one of the few companies in Africa that exports software and became the only company in the world in 2004 to offer online training in Novell products.
Organisations can no longer afford to spend time and money providing extensive courses and setting up support divisions to handle desktop queries. Intoweb Training's cutting edge training solutions address these challenges. Its Virtual Expert GroupWise training program has been so successful that Novell International installed it in its own company offices, and reported a 68% reduction in support calls.
The company prides itself on a consistent record of 'firsts', such as its innovative development of translating training systems for Microsoft and Novell into Northern Sotho and Zulu. With clients ranging from SAB and Standard Bank to the CSIR and government, the company has begun to entrench itself in the industry as a reputable provider of training solutions that work.
According to Intoweb MD Darren Harris, the benefits of the company's move to the Hub extend far beyond the operational aspects of space and infrastructure. "Business is about networking, and we feel that The Innovation Hub will provide Intoweb Training with the necessary environment for our products to prosper", he said.
At the recent Futurex Exhibition in Sandton, Intoweb Training successfully launched a new Assessment System, developed in conjunction with the University of Pretoria. With this product already having been sold to a number of South African universities, trials are currently underway to test the planned extension of the system's application to large corporates. Intoweb places a strong focus on quality management and attention to detail. All their training programs are subjected to a five-stage quality assessment process and are developed according to the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) system.
In addition, every system is fully developed in South Africa. According to Harris, South Africa is ideally placed to take full advantage of the Open Source wave sweeping the globe. "We have the market, we certainly have the need, and we are also quite lucky that, at the moment, there is not much competition. Our training solutions can make a difference in South Africa by enabling more companies to move into Open Source", he added.
Looking to the future, Harris points to Open Office training as the next frontier in which to break ground. Already talks are underway with the CSIR's Open Source initiative, Open Source provider Obsidian, HP, Novell, and The Shuttleworth Foundation directly.
