The Innovation Hub takes 20 'girl children' to work
The Innovation Hub recently responded to the Cell C call to "Take a Girl Child to Work". The initiative, sponsored by Cell C, is aimed at giving young women the opportunity to experience the world of work, with a view to exposing them to the wide range of careers from which they can choose.
Partnering with tenant company Arup, the Hub hosted 20 girls from the Eshukamtambo High School in Soweto on 26 April. The girls' day started at the Arup offices in Sandton, Johannesburg where they were exposed to the day-to-day running of a project management and engineering environment. This was followed by a visit The Innovation Hub's new site in Pretoria, which has been developed under Arup's project management leadership.
Tsietsi Maleho, the Hub's Corporate Affairs Manager welcomed the group on their arrival and hosted them for lunch at the on-site restaurant. This was followed by presentations from Arup's Damane Hlalele on the development of the Hub site and Jeanette Morwane, on her work experience as initially an intern and now an assistant in the Corporate Affairs office at the Hub.
To end their day, the girls were presented with certificates of attendance and taken on a tour of The Innovation Hub premises by Nkhula Maboya, the Hub's Marketing Assistant who had also started his employment as an intern.
