Techsolutions (Pty) Ltd, a RFID (radio frequency identification) solution provider, is a new participant in the maxum Business Incubator at The Innovation Hub in Pretoria.

According to CEO Eon de Koker, Techsolutions see the move to the Hub as beneficial to the growth of the company, adding that "we are proud to be associated with The Innovation Hub and the maxum Business Incubator, and look forward to the interacting and networking with other companies on site and that forms part of the Hub's exciting INNOV8 initiative".

With an infrastructure that includes high availability servers for mission critical applications, Techsolutions provides RFID tags, readers, middleware software and application software solutions for the supply chain, pallet tracking, asset tracking (including laptop computer tracking), parking and access control sectors. The company is a reseller of the most highly rated RFID middleware solution.

"Our services include all aspects of the system life cycle: business consulting, process modelling, project planning, project management, software development, systems integration and testing, hosting, support and application maintenance," says de Koker. "We also recently presented an RFID workshop in partnership with the South African Society of Supply Chain Professionals (SAPCIS), while the next workshop is scheduled for the annual SAPICS conference at Sun City early in June," he added.

The company's RFID access control readers allow secure and efficient vehicle entry to business premises. Contrary to current proximity card access systems that require vehicles to stop and drivers to wind down windows to swipe their access cards, the Techsolutions tag allows the driver to access without having to stop the car. At a cost of less than R20, this offers a secure and affordable solution that greatly enhances driver safety. It is also ideal for people like doctors who are often in a hurry.

"Our readers have been tested and operate with most leading access control systems such as Softcon, Lenel, Proxnet and Impro. Techsolutions recently received a contract for installing RFID access control at Sunninghill Hospital while its online parking solution, EasyPark, has been under pilot at the CSIR campus since November 2004. This solution demonstrates RFID utilisation for paid parking.

In cooperation with a leading local IT company, Techsolutions is developing an asset tracking solution for monitoring the movement of company laptops. Each laptop is RFID-tagged using manual and fixed RFID readers, which offers a streamlined solution to managing the entry and exit of personnel with laptops. Currently their security requires the logging of the laptop serial number in a book, which is time consuming, frustrating to personnel and inaccurate. Techsolutions is also a member of Afritag and the Smart Card Society of South Africa.
