Customised learning solutions for SA companies
One of the latest arrivals as a tenant at The Innovation Hub, Active Touch, has carved a niche for itself in the competitive e-learning industry. The company specialises in tailor made e-learning solutions that address the specific needs of South African companies. While the industry is inundated with generic e-learning material, Active Touch has gone the route of customised solutions.
"The Innovation Hub's drive to stimulate innovation attracted us to join its community of entrepreneurs," says Managing Director, Catherine Fourtier. "We started exploring the possibility of moving to The Innovation Hub in mid-2004 and moved in March 2005.
The company's technical director, Johann Fouche, says they started attending The Innovation Hub's networking events a year ago and were impressed with the level of entrepreneurship and drive demonstrated by The Innovation Hub's tenants. "We specialise in translating knowledge into learning, so we are sure to thrive in The Innovation Hub's knowledge intensive environment," he says.
Over the past five years the Active Touch team of professional educators has provided outcomes-based learning solutions for a broad range of clients in various sectors, including government, mining, automotive and software. The team's strength lies in the national and international experience of its members, some of whom have received international recognition. Reputable sub-contractors are brought in whenever necessary to fulfil the client's requirements.
In addition to having a highly skilled and experienced team, Active Touch's methodologies keep it abreast of its competitors. As Education Director, Joel Kgarimetsa, explains, "We work with the client through the entire process from identifying the needs, discussing solutions and developing the relevant content. Our Learning Management System also ensures that clients receive regular reports on learning progress made by their staff."
Learning content is interactive in nature. Much of it is provided on CD Rom, so that participants can work at their own pace, without having to leave the workplace. Assessment is usually done in two ways, on line as well as in a face to face one-day workshop.
According to Fouche, this method has several advantages for both employers and employees. "It offers a high return on investment and a high return on effectiveness. In today's competitive and fast paced business environment, our clients need to acquire the necessary learning without losing valuable time," he says.
