Hub tenant provides engineering solutions for Africa
The management services division of Bigen Africa, a leading multidisciplinary engineering and management services company, is currently housed in the Enterprise Building. Having started out as an engineering consultancy in 1971, Bigen today offers engineering, management and project finance solutions to clients in the private and public sectors.
The company's management services range from project and institutional management to labour and materials management across 13 offices in South Africa alone, and as far a field as Mauritius and Nigeria.
Bigen has been involved in government's municipal support programme since its inception in 2000, and provided management support to a number of metropolitan, district and local municipalities across the country. They were the project consultants on the Ukhahlamba District Municipality's Municipal Assistance Programme, which was awarded the title of Project of the Year in 2002.
The company is also involved in the Department of Provincial and Local Government's (DPLG) Project Consolidate where, as part of a consortium, they will contribute to the establishment of a project management division for DPLG. This intensive engagement programme will focus on various key elements, including organisational culture, capacity building and performance monitoring to impact on the overall performance of local government.
According to Bigen Africa director, CJ Venter, "We are not a stock-standard engineering consultancy. Our focus is also on innovative engineering solutions. We found a fit in the Hub's vision and what we believe our company is all about", he said.
With the majority of its services rendered within the public sector, Venter also points out that it was important for Bigen Africa to show its support for a government initiative such as The Innovation Hub. "It is a concept that really supports what we stand for", he added.
