MTN partners with The Innovation Hub's CoachLab™

Students participating in the The Innovation Hub's CoachLab™ Leadership Development programme working on real time industry projects.

The Innovation Hub announced recently that cellular network operator MTN is the latest to join its unique CoachLab™ Leadership Development programme as a partner and sponsor. The announcement came at the 2005 CoachLab™ graduation function held at the Conference Venue at the Hub, where successful candidates presented a number of innovative technologies developed while working on industry projects.

The CoachLab™ at The Innovation Hub is run as a cooperative initiative between The Innovation Hub and partners from industry and tertiary education. It creates a specialist mentorship environment for postgraduates to fast-track the development of world-class human capital for South Africa in the knowledge industries.

According to MTN Training Manager, Eric Jacobson, "The initiative is a mutually beneficial one. MTN will gain additional operational resources and the postgraduate candidates will be gaining valuable work-based exposure." He indicated that the partnership is a continuance of similar learnership and internship initiatives over the past six years that have resulted in about a 100 learners having been hosted within the MTN environment.

Jill Sawers, manager of the maxum Business Incubator at The Innovation Hub and involved in facilitating the CoachLab™ programme at the Hub, expressed delight at welcoming MTN on board as a partner and sponsor. "Clearly this initiative is allowing companies in different industry sectors to derive value from collaborative candidate projects - such as looking at the convergence of data and voice networks - while the postgraduates have confirmed the significant benefits they derive from participating in this programme".
