e-Education package aims to improve administration and decision-making at schools

A newly developed, comprehensive e-Education Package (CeP) that integrates e-Administration, e-Learning and value added services, is aimed at improving the overall management in schools. The integrated system is set to enhance administrative efficiencies and decision-making processes and significantly improve independent learning and assist teachers to manage learning content.

According to Thabo Mogaswa, Managing Director of Mohwiti Technologies, a participant in the maxum Business Incubator at the Hub, the CeP is set to demonstrate how an integrated information system, encompassing both e-Administration and e-Learning, will change how schools function. "The focus in the school market has always been on e-Administration only, with little or no effort being dedicated to e-Learning", says Mogaswa. "What makes the CeP different from other school technology packages is that it is not only about the technology, but includes services that ensure that the technology integrates into the school environment."

The companies involved in the CeP development are Mohwiti Technologies, Mediamaisteri, CSIRand and the Finnish Embassy Both Mohwiti Technologies and Mediamaisteri have added real value to the development through their provision of the e-Administration and e-Learning tools, respectively. The project has also created an opportunity for technology collaboration between Finnish and South African companies.

The schools, district offices as well as the provincial departments of education stand to benefit from the project as the improved administration and overall management of the school, facilitated by the CeP will improves the quality of education that school can provide. The CeP has already been successfully implemented in 10 schools in Gauteng, including Nellmapius Primary School, Vukani Mawethu Primary School and DC Marivate Junior Secondary School.

This project aligns itself with the Gauteng Provincial Government Department of Education's technology development programme, which has an objective to grant every child in the province Internet access by year 2013. The project contributes largely to the realisation of this objective, due to the nature of the products on offer.
