Foreign and local visitors welcomed at the Hub

A delegation from the Administration Centre of the Innovation Fund for Technology-based SME of the Ministry of Science and Technology in China recently visited the maxum Business Incubator at The Innovation Hub.

The main purpose of their discussions with Incubator Manager Jill Sawers was to gain insight into the Hub's incubation programmes. They were specifically interested in the business support provided to the small and medium enterprises participating in incubation, and the criteria used in the selection process. Their visit also included meetings with some of the associate companies at The Innovation Hub.

And for the second time in August this year a group of Honours students from the Department of Computer Science at Rhodes University visited The Innovation Hub as part of their 2004 field trip. The purpose of field trips is to expose the students to the realities of the business world and associated work opportunities.

On both occasions the visits stimulated interest and enthusiasm amongst the students in entrepreneurship, while sensitizing them to the benefits and challenges of becoming an entrepreneur. Departmental Manager Caro Watkins, who accompanied the students, confirmed the success of these interactions, saying that after the previous visit, "many of the students placed The Innovation Hub in the 'Best Place' category on their field trip evaluation sheets, calling the visit inspirational!"

The Innovation Hub looks forward to re-establishing links with these students after their studies as innovators of the future!
