Hub participates in international conference in Bangkok

Dr Chachanat Thebtaranonth, IASP Asia Pacific President.

Attended by over 170 delegates from 18 countries, the International Association of Science Parks' (IASP) Asia-Pacific Division conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 23 to 25 June.

As the only full member of the IASP in Africa - and reinforcing its position as the only internationally-accredited Science Park on the continent - The Innovation Hub was represented at the conference by Martin Yuill, the Hub's Manager: Value-Added Services.

Based around the theme of "Planning & Managing Science Parks", the conference considered issues such as planning Science Parks; how to "sell" a Science Park; how successful Science Parks are attractive to tenant companies; Science Park services; quality value-added services as the core business of the true Science Park; and Science Park governance models. Parallel sessions looked at issues such as the planning of Science Parks and Science Park marketing and communication.

Addressed by international Science Park luminaries as Luis Sanz, IASP Director General; Prof. Dr. Chachanat Thebtaranonth, President, IASP Asia-Pacific Division; Harry Morita, Managing Director, Kyoto Research Park; Peter Why, Technology Park Western Australia; and James Lee, Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park, the conference ended with a technical visit to the impressive Thailand Science Park, where international best practice issues were reviewed.

All in all, the programme offered highly practical content to the delegates, who participated actively in each information-packed session.
