Rapid rate of construction continues at new site

Motorists travelling along the north and south-bound lanes of the N1 highway in the vicinity of the CSIR in Pretoria will undoubtedly have noticed the rapid rate of construction at The Innovation Hub's new site.

According to project manager, Martin Schindler of Arup, final road works as well as the installation of kerbs and street lighting on the site is well underway, while the installation of electrical cables will follow the internal road works programme.

Construction for the widening of the bridge across the N4 highway in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens is also on track, where the bridge piers have been erected and the construction of the bridge deck has commenced. Similarly, the construction of the western and eastern embankments for the new bridge across the N1 opposite the CSIR is progressing well. The bridge will give direct access to the main entrance to The Innovation Hub site via The Innovation Hub Drive.

The construction of the concrete frames of the Innovation Centre and Enterprise Building is nearing completion, with the roof slabs of both buildings respectively almost complete and progressing well. The installation of services and brickwork has commenced.

All major sub-contracts have been awarded with, most recently, the Data/Voice, electronic security and shop fitting packages awarded to Di-Data, Firetech Projects and Falcon Shopfitters respectively. General landscaping maintenance activities and the procurement of plants are ongoing.

The Phase 1 infrastructure and buildings, including tenant fitout, are due for delivery by the end of December 2004.
