Activity everywhere on The Innovation Hub site

Up to first floor level and progressing ...! Construction of the ground floor slab for the core buildings, the Innovation Centre and the Enterprise Building, is progressing well, with columns to the first floor slab going up, while construction of this slab has also started. The core buildings and the Sappi building are due for completion by the Christmas shutdown this year.

The installation of bulk services has been completed and road works have commenced, with the widening of the N4 bridge and construction of the new N1 bridge well underway. The construction of the bridge embankments on both sides of the N1, and the manufacturing of the pre-cast beams are progressing fast. The installation of electrical cables will follow the road works programme.

The simultaneous development of the bulk and transport infrastructure and the core buildings has required the early appointment of a well-integrated and experienced project team. Based on a two stage tender process - including a qualification Request for Information process - towards the end of 2003, the full professional team and key contractors have been on site since early this year. Subsequently only sub-contracts are being awarded to pre-qualified contractors, the latest of which have been for the lifts, roof steel, plumbing and façade and electrical work, while the tenders for tiling and ironmongery sub-contracts have recently been issued. All contractors have been inducted and issued with the required Occupational Health and Safety documentation and monthly safety meetings are held to monitor compliance.

General landscaping maintenance activities and the procurement of plants are also progressing well.
