Joint venture delivers on IT solutions for public transport
TCI-Thoreb (Pty) Ltd, a public transport technology company based at The Innovation Hub, recently secured a pilot order for providing wiring systems for two fire engines. Linked through a joint venture to Swiss-based AB Thoreb, one of world's largest producers of multiplex wiring systems for buses, TCI-Thoreb has access to IT-related products for public transport solutions from Thoreb as well as from other leading European companies.
During a recent visit to South Africa and the team at TCI-Thoreb, AB Thoreb Managing Director Olle Martinelle, explained that some years ago Thoreb found that their multiplex wiring system, initially intended for buses, was suitable for fire engines as well. These vehicles are equipped with advanced technology to give them optimum manoeuvrability in harsh conditions. The Thoreb multiplex system checks the pressure in different tanks, mixes and regulates water and foam, controls the roof - and bumper monitors as well as all lights that are used during the fire extinguishing procedure.
AB Thoreb Marketing Director Johan Källvik added that, "The reason for locating TCI-Thoreb at The Innovation Hub is that it provides resident companies with 'value-for money' - I also like the high standard of facilities and services available as well as the friendly atmosphere."
The TCI-Thoreb joint venture forms part of the AB Thoreb expansion plan in response to a growing market for buses and fire engines. According to CEO Mthembeni Mkhize, the company joined the incubation programme at The Innovation Hub directly after its launch at the World Summit for Sustainable Environment in 2002. "We have benefited significantly from being at the Hub - the business mentorship has been invaluable," he said.
"I am impressed with The Innovation Hub and I judge it to be perfect for our needs", Martinelle concluded.
