Building construction is gearing ahead at The Innovation Hub
Construction of the first two buildings on the new site for The Innovation Hub is fervently gearing ahead, following approval from the Tshwane Municipal Council for the construction work to commence. The project is being developed in phases, the first of which has released 50 000 m2 of gross floor area. The contractors, Concor-Trencon JV, have completed the installation of a batch plant to provide the concrete being used for this Phase of the project. The contractors will be appointing sub-contractors over the next three to four months. Updates on these processes will be available on our website.
Despite the heavy rains over the last months, the piling and bulk earthworks for the buildings were completed on schedule. Construction is due for completion by December 2004.
The R80 million Innovation Centre and Enterprise Building will act as anchor buildings for the precinct. The 4 500 m2 Innovation Centre will contain shared facilities such as a 180-seat auditorium, conference rooms, board rooms, video conferencing, exhibition areas, a knowledge centre and restaurant, as well as "hot offices" for management consultants, a business incubator and the CoachLab facility that provides a mentorship programme to fast-track post-graduate students into the business environment.
The 8 500 m2 Enterprise Building is a multi-tenant building that will provide A-grade space at affordable rentals to a variety of tenants, including small and medium enterprises active in technology-led and research based sectors, such as information and communications technology, biosciences, electronics, advanced materials and pilot-scale manufacturing.
Exceptional tenant fit-out, including a flexible power and data cabling network and state-of-the-art air-conditioning system are some of the features that make space in these buildings a very attractive accommodation option to potential residents. The two buildings also have a common basement with parking for 425 cars.
