Building construction is gearing ahead at The Innovation Hub
Construction of the first two buildings on the new site for The Innovation Hub is fervently gearing ahead, following approval from the Tshwane Municipal Council for the construction work to commence. The project is being developed in phases, the first of which has released 50 000 m2 of gross floor area.
New products set for launch from The Innovation Hub's high-tech environment
Blue Square Technologies (Pty) Limited, a resident company at The Innovation Hub, is set to launch two exciting new products - Blue Book, a real mobile computer modem and Follow me, a personal tracking device. The company specialises in the design and development of easy to use wireless connectivity solutions for OEMs.
Joint venture delivers on IT solutions for public transport
TCI-Thoreb (Pty) Ltd, recently secured a pilot order for providing wiring systems for two fire engines. Linked through a joint venture to Swiss-based AB Thoreb, one of world's largest producers of multiplex wiring systems for buses, TCI-Thoreb has access to IT-related products for public transport solutions from Thoreb as well as from other leading European companies.
Partnership with CISCO set to benefit start-up at the Hub
A strategic partnership between CISCO Systems and The Innovation Hub is set to benefit resident companies at the Hub. The partnership flows from a commitment by both parties to support the role of start-ups in developing new technologies and the need for entrepreneurs to stay abreast of emerging technologies in this development process.
Incubation Manager elected to Chair new body for incubator community
Incubation Manager at The Innovation Hub, Jill Sawers, was recently elected to Chair the South African incubator community's newly established South African Business and Technology Incubation Association (SABTIA). SABTIA will serve as an umbrella body for incubators throughout the country.
Partnership with venture capital firm supports high-tech entrepreneurs
A dynamic new South African venture capital firm, Triumph Venture Capital, has become the latest company to enter into a Knowledge Partnership with The Innovation Hub in support of innovators and entrepreneurs who are members of the Hub's INNOV8 high-tech community.
Deadline extended for street naming competition for the Hub precinct
In the last issue of NewsBits, we announced a street naming competition for the internal road network on the new site for The Innovation Hub. Since submissions are still arriving on a daily basis, the official closing date has been extended for another week until Thursday 8 April 2004.
The Hub's How 2 Series focuses on leveraging the Media
Why do we need to work with the Media? Why are they always negative? How do they define what is newsworthy? Which media should we select or target? These are some of the questions explored at a workshop on How to leverage the Media held at The Innovation Hub early in March for members participating in its business incubation programme.

Futurex 2004 offers a definitive Information and Communications Technology event
Previously known as Computer Faire, the re-branded Futurex 2004 follows the global trend towards convergence, and will see the integration of Tel.com Africa, Africa's premier International Telecommunication exhibition, into the original IT exhibition to form a single, definitive Information and Communication Technology (ICTE) event.
The exhibition will be held from 18-21 May 2004 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
