The importance of ensuring that the work place is a safe and healthy environment for all who work there was discussed at a highly interactive workshop held recently for tenant companies in The Innovation Hub Business Incubator. Presented by Ted Rowen & Associates, the seminar focussed on the rights and duties of employers and employees.
Key points discussed highlighted the fact that employers cannot shirk responsibility or liability by passing on their duties and must provide, as far as reasonably practicable, a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of their employees.
Employees on the other hand, while at work, must take reasonable care of their own health and safety, co-operate with employers to comply with the Health & Safety laws and report incidents that occur.
Issues such as the use of subcontractors and their liability whilst working on the company's premises were also discussed.
Any health and safety issues relating to The Innovation Hub's pilot site at the CSIR should be brought to the attention of Jill Sawers, Manager of the Business Incubator at the Hub, who will be representing The Innovation Hub Management Company in this capacity.
