New security product performing well in robust industrial environment
Spline Technologies, a local electronics development company participating in the Business Incubator at The Innovation Hub, has developed a competitive high quality range of optic fibre interface products that transmit video and data signals used in video surveillance networks. Known as FibreGain, the products are CE certified, which means that they comply with European standards for frequency emissions and susceptibility to RF interference.
Managing Director, Johann Weidemann, says the competitive advantage of the Spline products lie in their quality, pricing and performance. Their FibreGain converters have been running parallel to the CSIR's other security surveillance network for some months with good results.
The FibreGain video and data products have also found their way into the local industrial and mining environments. Cirtech Communications has successfully used the FibreGain video equipment for some time. Managing Director, Peter Wood, believes it will stand the test of time. "We have used FibreGain in a robust industrial environment, with a lot of dirt, dust, heat and humidity. If it can do well in a harsh environment like ours, I have no doubt that it can stand up to any type of environment." Explaining his company's decision to try out this new South African product, Wood says the product is well packaged and competitively priced. Based on its performance during the trial period, he believes the technology is equal to the best in the industry both locally and internationally. "The fact that it has CE certification also assures the user that it is a high quality product that can be used with confidence," he concludes.
Weidemann believes that small companies like Spline Technologies benefit from being housed within The Innovation Hub's Business Incubator. The Incubator provides an enabling environment where the growth of high-tech start-up companies is fast tracked. This is evident from the success of Spline Technologies in its two and a half years of existence. The business support provided by the Hub helps small companies to produce high quality products at competitive prices with which they can make inroads into the highly competitive technology industries.
Incubation Manager at The Innovation Hub, Jill Sawers, congratulating Spline Technologies on their achievement, says that even at this early stage in its development, it is clear that the Hub's initiatives are fulfilling a need in stimulating the growth of a knowledge intensive cluster in the Province. "It also shows the potential that exists in our emerging knowledge-intensive companies. We are strengthened in our resolve to provide an environment and a network where in such companies can grow and prosper," she says.
