Time for lift-off - the launch of building construction

Construction on The Innovation Hub site has gone up a gear - behind those piles of soil you may see flashing past while driving along the N1 highway east of Pretoria, the earth is moving - literally.

The rains in the last week of February were a blessing to the country, but a frustration to our site team who are now well underway with preparations to commence the construction of the core buildings. The completed perimeter fence now surrounds the entire site and the earthworks to accommodate the underground parking area and piling for the Innovation Centre and Enterprise building have been completed.

With the approval of the building plans, the time for Phase I digging is at an end - the construction on the buildings - above ground - will literally now get the project off the ground. The contractors, Concor-Trencon JV, are installing a batch plant to provide the significant amount of concrete that will be used for this Phase of the project. The contractors will be appointing sub-contractors over the next three to four months. Updates on these processes will be available on our website.

In addition to the Innovation Centre and Enterprise building soon becoming real structures as opposed to mere architectural renderings, the contract for the SAPPI Technology Centre and Paper Academy has been awarded and construction is also imminent. More news on this in the next NewsBits!

A view from on-high

The exciting news is that we will soon be installing a web cam at a strategic location on the site, which will provide regular "real-time" views of the development on the site. These image will be linked to our website, allowing you to see the action beyond the mounds of soil and share the excitement as the various building milestones are reached.
