Rid your company of spyware, adware and dataminers

Total IT solutions provider, Defiance Technologies - a tenant company at The Innovation Hub specialising in wireless technologies - has recently been inundated with calls from companies with IT problems: all with related symptoms.

As part of generating funds for its long-term plans, the company provides technical services to a variety of small and large companies. Over the last while, almost every one of them has reported a variety of IT problems with seemingly similar symptoms. Upon investigation, it was evident that the symptoms were all related to unwanted programs such as Spyware, Adware, Dataminers and others.

"These are unwanted programs running in the background, spying on users, redirecting them, eating their bandwidth, slowing down their computers, dialling them up .... the list goes on", says MD Alan Bucke. One client even reported a telephone bill of over R9 000.00 due to an unwanted program dialling out covertly. "Although these programs are quite similar to viruses, they are classed differently, and a lot of standard virus protection programs miss them completely," according to Alan.

Defiance Technologies has set up a small arsenal of free anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-adware and anti-redirection programs. One of the services the company now offers is to clean and immunise computers, as well as train users how to maintain and update programs to ensure they stay unaffected.
