The Changing Landscape of The Innovation Hub
For those travelling on the N1 highway or visiting Pretoria, the rapid changes on the University of Pretoria's Experimental Farm in the east of Pretoria will have become increasingly evident since August 2003. This, of course, heralds the commencement of the main site development of The Innovation Hub.

Rehabilitation of the natural hillside to an indigenous state |
Flowing from an intense master planning process linked to the approved Environmental Management Plan, the construction of the bulk infrastructure is well underway. Currently most evident on the site is the temporary entrance road and the new perimeter fencing, which will be electrified as well as covered by CCTV surveillance to ensure site protection, now nearing completion. The other clear change is the removal of the gum trees, which, while a landmark, is part of the rehabilitation of the 'koppie' to an indigenous state.
On the site, and now not visible because of excavations, is a hive of activity installing the required electricity, water and stormwater services and reticulation, and commencing the Phase 1 internal roads construction, where the box cutting is nearing completion ready for layer work to start.
The reality of construction has resulted in an increasing number of discussions with companies interested in the attractive value-adding offerings of this first internationally accredited Science Park to the high-tech and knowledge economy sectors. In addition to Sappi building their new Technology Centre and Paper Academy on the site, advanced negotiations are in progress with a number of future freehold participants, while interest in the rental space in the Enterprise Building is growing.
