Interacting with the "movers and shakers"
Members of The Innovation Hub's INNOV8 high-tech community gathered in large numbers again in October for another lively Pub@Hub business networking event.
Every month our Pub@Hub event brings together leading lights of the local high-tech and knowledge intensive communities, providing opportunity for creative, innovative and entrepreneurial souls to hobnob with both local and international industry leaders and tech sector "movers and shakers".
Experience has shown that these evenings provide a focal point for the commercialisation of new technologies, the seeding of high-growth companies and speeding up the flow of cutting-edge ideas about markets, products, services, processes and new technologies amongst members of the INNOV8 community. High-tech role-players from big companies and small start-ups also get the opportunity to interact with venture capitalists and leaders in the local knowledge economy industries.
The featured "pub talker" at this event was acclaimed international speaker, writer and lecturer on entrepreneurship and international business development issues, Vin Morar, an independent consultant currently affiliated to the TSM Business School at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Vin highlighted key issues around the need for "enterprise in society", as well as the value of small and medium-size businesses to the overall health of an economy.
Prize sponsors for the evening included:
- Computer Storage Services Inc for sponsoring a voucher valued at R2000
- SerialSecure-IT for sponsoring a lifetime subscription to their on-line personal security system/service for every participant
- Dr Derek Hurlin, one of the Hub's knowledge partners and an Intellectual Property and Technology Management consultant, for sponsoring a set of four books authored by himself.
Congratulations to those participants who were the first ever recipients of "Blue Labels" - the highest form of recognition for support of, and commitment to, the INNOV8 community initiative.
