The Innovation Hub supports the Big Idea
The Innovation Hub made a visible contribution to the Gauteng Big Idea conference for entrepreneurs, one of a series that were held in major cities across the country in August this year. Two representatives of The Innovation Hub made presentations, while resources were also committed to support the registration process.
The Big Idea conferences were organised by HBD, astronaught Mark Shuttleworth's venture capital company, and The Innovation Fund. The focus was on innovation and entrepreneurship, covering subjects such as creative thinking, commercialisation of intellectual property, and support for entrepreneurs.
Jill Sawers, Manager: Incubation and Entrepreneurship at The Innovation Hub, discussed the role of incubators in creating an enabling environment for start-up companies. She referred to the various incubator initiatives in the country and presented The Innovation Hub's Business Incubator as a case study in supporting high-tech development.
Dr Rudi van der Walt, mentor and coach for companies resident in The Innovation Hub's Incubator, focused on the importance of small companies preparing a business plan as a prerequisite for accessing finance and other business support systems.
Attendance of the conferences surpassed expectation, underlining the need that entrepreneurs have for business and management support. HBD has indicated that it will host the Big Idea conferences annually.
