Developing strengths and realising opportunities in biotechnology
The aim of the 3rd Cape Biotech conference, to be held on 17-18 November 2003 in Cape Town, is to further interaction between academic and industrial researchers, students, industrialists, entrepreneurs, government representatives, funders and all other parties interested in building a future in biotechnology in South Africa. Cape Biotech 2003 also aims to provide a forum for the transfer of scientific knowledge and ideas, and the presentation of key technological developments in biotechnology.
Honouring excellence in ICT
Forge Ahead BMI-T, in partnership with the Department of Communications, presents an annual ICT Achievers Award programme to stimulate the growth of the ICT sector in South Africa. The awards honour excellence amongst black ICT professionals who have made a significant contribution to the ICT sector and aims to encourage the continued growth of black entrepreneurship and role models of ICT excellence. The 2003 African ICT Achievers Awards 2003 will be held in November at the Sandton Convention Centre.
Blue IQ projects update
The Innovation Hub is one of 11 major Blue IQ projects and with the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link, one of the two projects with a technology focus. Blue IQ is a multi-billion Rand initiative of the Gauteng Provincial Government to invest in economic infrastructure development in identified mega projects in tourism, smart industries and high value-added manufacturing, to create a truly "smart" province.
The Swedish Challenge Award for Invention and Innovation
The Embassy of Sweden in South Africa extended an invitation to South Africa to participate in the upcoming Swedish Challenge competition, "Innovations for Development in Eastern and Southern Africa (IDESA)". The overall objective of IDESA is to encourage an innovative, entrepreneurial spirit and to identify and reward individuals exhibiting creativity.
