Hub activities on show
The month of May 2003 proved to be a very busy period for The Innovation Hub. Its participation in no less than three exhibitions in just two weeks will be long remembered by those who diligently manned the stands!

The Tshwane Business Week in Pretoria 19-22 May
Held at the Tshwabac Show Grounds in Pretoria for the first time this year with the aim of making it an annual event, the Tshwane Business Week was initiated by the Local Economic Development (LED) Division of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality. It included a conference for economic development at regional and metropolitan levels, a business exhibition, a developmental programme for entrepreneurs and the creation of a platform for regional networking opportunities. The purpose of the event was to solicit contributions from economic developers and practitioners to the City's LED strategy, due for adoption by its Council later this month.
The Hub's participation included a stand at the business exhibition, participation in the planning and facilitation of the ICT session of the conference and hosting a best practice site visit for delegates to the pilot activities of the Hub at its temporary premises in Pretoria.
The SAPOA Exhibition at Sun City 21-23 May
The SA Property Owners' Association Convention and Property Exhibition is an annual event billed as one of the largest property-related exhibitions in South Africa. The May event at Sun City offered participants exciting marketing and networking opportunities. The Hub's participation included attendance of the Convention as well as participating as an exhibitor, to create awareness and interest in the project.
Hub representative, Thibi Matshele, Business Development and Marketing Manager, reported active interest in the project, as well as complimentary feedback on the quality of the Hub stand.
The SMME Expo at Kyalami in Midrand 28-29 May
This initiative ran concurrent to the Metropolitan South Africa for the Global Advantage Summit. It intended to create a "free-of-charge" platform for carefully selected small businesses to promote themselves and benefit from networking with delegates to the summit.
Four of the early stage companies currently participating in the pilot pre-incubation programme at the Hub shared space on the Hub stand at the SMME Expo, while Hub managers attended the summit as well. The stand created a lot of interest and generated a number of leads from companies interested in participating in Hub initiatives.
