The Botswana Technology Centre is a research and development organisation based in Gaborone that specialises in adaptation and development of technologies to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Botswana, and support the economic development of the country. The Centre's strengths in research and development (R&D) lie in renewable energy technologies, electronics, architecture, civil engineering, and scientific and technological information. The Centre is linked to many international networks, and is the Botswana representative of the Commonwealth Science Council.
BOTEC is considering setting up a Science Park in Gaborone. The purpose of their visit to The Innovation Hub - one in a series of visits to look at similar initiatives - was to gather information that will help to assess the feasibility of establishing a Science Park in Botswana.
"In addition to learning all about BOTEC and their vision of a Science Park in Botswana, and sharing some of the lessons learnt from our pilot activities, we have established a relationship that bodes well for future collaboration," according to Jill Sawers, Incubation and Entrepreneurship Manager at the Hub.
