Pre-incubation company attends international workshop on ICT in African schools

MD of Kgatelopele Technologies
Thabo Mogaswa.

Kgatelopele Technologies CEO Thabo Mogaswa, recently attended the SchoolNet Africa workshop in Botswana. The workshop, organised by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), the World Bank and SchoolNet Africa, attracted educators, ICT practitioners and policy makers from across the continent. Their aim was to share insights and find solutions to improving the status and capacity of ICTs in African schools.

The more than 250 participants looked at the role of technological development in African schools and a number of research programs that have been conducted throughout the continent to provide ICT access to these schools.

According to Mogaswa, it was important for Kgatelopele Technologies to attend this workshop, as the company is a major role player in the development of an Open Source school management system.

"The workshop also highlighted real needs in African schools, and how ICTs could be used in addressing these needs," says Mogaswa. Open Source Solutions have a major role to play, in addressing problems faced by schools in Africa and thereby bridging the digital divide.

As one of the leading Open Source Solutions developers, Kgatelopele Technologies is in the forefront of the use of it in schools, and are better positioned to give insight into the use of ICTs in schools.
