On Friday 14 November 2003, in conjunction with the Tshwane Metropolitan Council, The Innovation Hub hosted a delegation of government and business leaders from Dongguan City in the Peoples Republic of China.
Led by Mr Lu Zhibang, a Director in the Foreign Affairs Office of Dongguan Municipal People's Government, the delegation was in Pretoria to explore opportunities for cooperation between the two regions, focusing specifically on strengthening economic ties between the cities of Dongguan and Pretoria.
In 2002, the total volume of imports and exports to and from Dongguan totalled $44,3 billion. With exports of $23,7 billion, Dongguan has been ranked third in its foreign exchange earnings among the major cities in China for six consecutive years.
The delegation was particularly interested in the high-tech clustering that will take place with the development of The Innovation Hub as a world-class Science Park, and expressed an interest in expanding relations between the Hub and Dongguan in the future to the mutual benefit of companies in both regions.
