Sappi turns soil at The Innovation Hub

Sappi held a sod turning ceremony at The Innovation Hub in Pretoria on 5 December 2003 to mark the start of construction of the company's Technology Centre and Paper Academy.

Sappi is proud to be the first anchor tenant at the Hub. The group's entire fibre production processes will be researched in its facility at the Hub, from land management and seeding through to pulp and dissolving pulp production. These raw material stages of paper and by-product production are at the heart of Sappi's business.

Sappi's core support services such as biotechnology research, mill support, environmental impact research and environmental management services will also be housed at the Hub. Technical training for operations personnel at all levels will be will be provided at Paper Academy, also being established on the Hub site. This Academy will be Sappi's central point of co-ordination with the various industry SETAs while also providing industry-related distance learning.
