Seizing the biotech-ICT opportunity
The Innovation Hub has a key role to play in developing globally recognised biotech and ICT clusters for South Africa in Gauteng. A recent survey by the Department of Trade and Industry highlighted the need for these sectors to interact more closely so that new joint opportunities are identified and developed. Hub CEO, Dr Neville Comins, recently presented the Hub's views on this important issue at the ICT and Biotechnology Convergence: Future Prospects for Development in Africa workshop. Read more

Naledi3d spreads its wings
After a few noteworthy early breakthroughs, the Naledi 3d Factory, one of the first start-up companies in the pilot incubator at The Innovation Hub, is spreading its wings to foreign shores. Read more about their plans to access European markets.

    Use of ICT to support governance in Africa
    International debate has recently highlighted the centrality and importance of "good governance" for sustainable development.     The South African Association of Science and Technology Centres
    [SAASTEC] aims to contribute to life improvement in southern Africa by improving scientific knowledge and skills through interactive living science and technology centres.

    The 5th Annual SAASTEC Conference will be held at the MTN ScienCentre at Century City in Cape Town from 9 -11 December 2002. Read more

    The National Science & Technology Programme for Young Women 2003 will be held simultaneously with the SAASTEC conference.

    The 7th International Conference on Public Communication of Science & Technology (PCST-7) will be twinned with the annual SAASTEC conference. The theme is Science Communication in a Diverse World. Read more

    World Summit outcomes

    The National Science and Technology Forum [NSTF] is the sounding board, communication channel and constructive watchdog of S&T in South Africa.

    The 5th NSTF Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Science, Engineering and Technology are aimed at encouraging South African businesses and institutions to invest resources in science and technology and encourage young South Africans to achieve a better quality of life.     Great eclipse resources - A total solar eclipse is probably the most spectacular astronomical event that most people will experience in their lives. South Africa is looking forward to the total solar eclipse on 4 December 2002.

    Strathclyde Technology is the technology transfer office of the University of Strathclyde, in the UK, that provides a shop window of innovations and inventions available to industry created through university research. Read more
