Progress and milestones at The Innovation Hub
The Innovation Hub development is steadily progressing to the construction phase on the main 60 ha site situated strategically between UP and the CSIR. The re-zoning and town planning processes should allow commencement of construction on the site in April 2003.
The completion of the Master Plan and phasing, and the finalisation of the 28 ha of serviced business sites for owner-built buildings, together with the planned 4500 m2 Innovation Centre and 8000 m2 multi-tenant building for SMEs, now provides the opportunity to sign-up the first tenants, around which momentum is growing.
A list of companies from the Request for Information (RFI) process for design consultants will be approved by the end of November this year. This will immediately be followed by a Request for Proposals (RFP) process for selected projects.
The Development Facilitation Act Tribunal hearing is scheduled for the 6 December 2002. A positive outcome from this hearing will ensure that the design and infrastructure delivery of the project, including the buildings, can commence with all speed and that the marketing campaign can proceed.
Dave Lockwood, Managing Director of the Naledi3d Factory, one of the first start-ups to join the pilot Incubator at The Innovation Hub, was recently invited as one of three international technology experts to attend a UNESCO workshop in Paris to explore greater access to technology for developing communities.
The Hub's website is currently undergoing a complete redesign to improve content and functionality. Watch this space for an announcement of "Go-Live! Day".
