The Innovation Hub successfully presented a bid at the Annual General Meeting of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) in Beijing in 2005 to host the 2008 IASP World Conference in Gauteng, and on the African continent for the first time.
Maxum Business Incubator reports significant success rate
The Hub's Maxum Business Incubator reported an overall success rate of 80% in developing start-up companies to self-sustainability, with 30 companies and 183 staff members (cumulative) having participated in incubation programmes since the Incubator's inception in 2000.

First MIT FabLab established at the Hub
Using the MIT FabLab model as baseline, the first South African lab was established at Hub in June 2005 to give users the ability to use advanced equipment to conceptualise, design, develop, fabricate and test almost anything from inexpensive and readily available materials.

The Department of Water Affairs contracted Hub tenant Agileworks to help develop and roll out the National Fire Risk Rating system, as part of new legislation to curb veldt fires, to increase safety levels in areas where there is a high probability of fire.
