The Innov8 session theme "How eSports and VR are revolutionising the digital space” will be hosted by industry experts who will provide insight into the world of Gaming, eSports and immersive Virtual Reality experiences. The session is aimed at providing a better understanding of the Virtual Reality and gaming world, with a focus on the rise of eSports in South Africa and globally.

The Business Plan Competition segment, is the second component of the GAPBiosciences Programme. Applications are open to individuals/teams with bioscience technologies that are technically sound and beyond proof of concept. During the competition, semi-finalists work with mentors in various fields to develop a bankable business plan over the course of approximately five months. The Business Plan Competition includes the Executive Education Week, an intensive week-long programme run by Emory University’s Goizueta Business School. This programme focuses on subjects unique to bioscience start-up companies by developing behaviours and skills within the teams to drive performance and create long-term value. At the end of the programme, the semi-finalist teams present their business plans to a panel of selected judges in a closed forum. The winning team will receive the following: Incubation at The Innovation Hub’s BioPark@Gauteng or associated incubators in other provinces for a period of one year where all rental and associated costs will be covered, excluding selected operational costs A seed fund of R 3.2 Million to be shared across all GAP Categories. Mentors with whom they will work as they further develop their business Business support (Legal, Intellectual Property, Technical, Commercial, etc.)

Bongani Mabuza obtained his BEng Electronics, MEng Microelectronics and BEng (honours) Technology Management from University of Pretoria, in 2007, 2012 and 2013 respectively. After completing undergraduate studies, he joined the Department of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering at the University of Pretoria as a Teaching Assistance in 2008 and junior lecture in 2009 for undergraduate lecturing. Since 2010, he worked at Nokia Siemens Networks as a Software Developer for charging and billing applications; at Denel Dynamics modelling and simulation department as Electronic Engineer focusing on IR sensor and software development; and at SKA SA system engineering department as System Analyst for the SKA radio telescope. Currently, he works at CSIR Radar and Electronic Warfare department as Radar System and Signal Analyst. He is also an associate researcher at the University of Johannesburg for online short learning program: Engineering Research Proposal Writing and working on a proposal for another short learning program: Engineering System Management / System Engineering. He is a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and a programmes officer for International Council of System Engineers, a South African Chapter (INCOSE SA). His interest includes signal processing, system analysis, system engineering, radar systems, microelectronics, property investment and public speaking. His goal is to enhance competencies for personal and professional development and to apply his skills to solve problems in the ever changing and dynamic challenges of our lives.
