CoachLab is a leadership development programme for post-graduates managed by The Innovation Hub. It was established in 2001 and has successfully graduated 86 students to date. Gosiame Tshetlanyane is one of the students who completed the programme in 2006. Born in Soweto, he completed his studies at The University of the Western Cape and proceeded into CoachLab.
This is his story:
“I studied Information System and Business Communications up to Honours level at The University of the Western Cape. I joined CoachLab in 2006 and was involved in a number of projects. The first project consisted of re-designing the CoachLab website to resemble the Innovation Hub’s one, we were guided on the importance of corporate identity and became familiar with concepts such as logo’s, pantone colours and messaging.
The following projects were company specific, one focused on the configuration of SAP HR process and this has become my career path as I am now employed at EPI-USE as a SAP HR Consultant and I love it! I am at the second level of my job, which is in accordance with my development plan. I have worked on a number of projects in different areas (ie configuration, blueprint, presentations, workshops-to gather data, clients training)
The programme contributed significantly in bridging the student and corporate divide, as we were involved in real-time company projects and the necessary resources to allow us to deliver. We managed ourselves and became disciplined in that regard as we only called onto the mentors if we were absolutely stuck. I know utilise the life skills I learnt at CoachLab in my everyday routine as I am able to manage my time effectively and as a Consultant the presentation skills come in handy.
The programme is a good spring-board much determined by one’s determination to succeed. I would recommend this programme because one is able to walk out of CoachLab as a leader, not just an employee in a company”.
