Innovative asset risk management company, Edge Risk Management Solutions (EdgeRMS™) - formerly Gattech - has formalised a partnership with international Global Positioning System (GPS) and Wireless Technology market leader, Laipac Technology Inc.
Based in Richmond Hill Ontario, with offices in Europe, Mexico, Taiwan and the USA, Laipac designs and manufactures 'real time' GPS tracking devices and develops solutions for location-based applications for a variety of markets worldwide. They also manufacturers the S-911 Personal Locator - a compact, mobile personal safety device that functions much the same as a mobile phone with added personal location, communication and emergency enabling capabilities.
EdgeRMS™, a tenant at The Innovation Hub, discovered Laipac's impressive range of products in October 2005, in their search for innovative partners to enhance the development of new services. A meeting with Laipac in Canada proved so successful that the EdgeRMS™ Directors returned to South Africa with a distribution contract and a secured first batch of products.
The relationship over the past four months has culminated in the company being officially appointed as Laipac's only representative for the Middle East and Africa regions. The company recently participated in the 2006 CeBIT exhibition in Hannover, alongside Laipac representatives from Canada, Europe, Mexico, Taiwan and the USA.
As the world's largest IT exhibition, CeBIT is visited annually by over 500 000 people and provides a platform for 6 300 exhibitors from over 71 countries, to showcase their latest products. This year Laipac introduced the S-911 Personal Locator and their new internet-based asset location system, LocationNow.com. According to EdgeRMS™ Directors, Carel Herbst and Anton Marais, the products were exceptionally well received - "there was nothing there like what we had. We gained an enormous amount of exposure and made a number of contacts with countries including Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Bahrain, Nigeria, Ghana, and even Madagascar", said Herbst.
The S-911 device has been localised for the South Africa market and is ready for roll-out. According to Herbst, the product is set to revolutionise the personal safety risk management market in South. "The device is so cost effective and adaptable, it makes location-based services in Africa more accessible and easier to use", he added.
Laipac Technology Inc will, in the near future, be opening an office within the EdgeRMS™ offices at The Innovation Hub. "We feel extremely proud to have attracted the investment of a successful international company such as Laipac. It is a great achievement for us and adds to international exposure for The Innovation Hub", said Herbst.
